Catalonia and Spain

The implications of Catalonia’s illegal referendum and Spain’s overreaction will be felt for many years. The situation itself will probably result in a lengthy impasse while central governments across the EU are likely to react by restricting power transfers to Brussels and regions. It should be clear that Spanish claims of sovereignty over Gibraltar cannot be acceded to as an unwilling minority could be treated poorly.
