We do not believe that PM May’s position is tenable, as her version of Brexit guarantees economic and political pain without the possibility of gains. The EU negotiators have successfully pushed the UK into a binary choice of Brexit in name only or hard Brexit, presumably without much access to European markets. Current turmoil could result in an aggressive anti-EU reaction or a lack of viable UK negotiating counterparty.
